My first job was at a McDonald's when I was 17. Hamburgers were 20 cents (cheeseburgers were 25 cents), French fries were 20 cents, and a small soft drink was 10 cents. Tax was 2 cents so the cheapest meal you could get was 52 cents. We had a lot of elementary age kids come in to eat and all they'd have would be 2 quarters. Our boss would always say "give it to 'em. I'll cover the tax". My pay was $1.35/hour.
French fries were made from real potatoes, peeled, sliced, and washed several times in big sinks on the premises before they were ready for frying. There was no drive-thru and no paying with a debit card (they didn't exist).
Wow... have times changed.
