How long before animals will eat / drink after a trauma?

The Vet is supposed to call in a few hours to check on our cat. My only concern is we need to see him urinate to confirm no uretha damage. Thing is, he has not eaten or drank anything. I know he is still hurting. Just wondering if any of you have had pets go longer than a day OR two after something traumatic?
