When McIlroy made that last Eagle, (2 today), I thought, "It's over. He's got it"..... and THEN....
After... geez, ? bogies, DeChambeau scorches the last few holes and ends the day only 2 behind McIlRoy... THAT was a total shock for me.
BTW... I have money riding on DeChambeau. Good odds too... +1600.... as of today that's dropped to... ummm, I think +360? Close to that anyway, I didn't check this evening.
For you golfers... a question... state your current handicap and what you think you could shoot today at Augusta... with the course exactly as it is setup for the Masters? Currently I'm struggling like at no other time in my life... I can barely break 100. Normally I can shoot in the low 90's, occasionally the high 80's. So If I played Augusta today I'm thinking... I'd struggle to best 140. If I was extremely HOT.... 110. No... wait... not a chance.... 120. Ummmm, nope, 140 was optimistic.
As a once 8 handicap, which is NOT great but it's not bad... to taking off from golf for 20 years due to my shoulder then trying to comeback today at 197 years of age and struggling to break 100 I cannot express to you how frustrating it is. Making it worse... I can play a hole like it was yesterday.... and then? Having to make a 50' putt for quadruple bogie. And distance!
OH MY GOD.... when I was an 8, (20 years ago), I could hit a 7 iron further than I can hit my driver today. Which brings me too - - -
Fr. Mike, my priest back in the day. He was in his 80's. back then Couldn't hit a golf ball further than 170yds.... at most! But the guy never hit a golf ball one inch off a direct line from tee to hole. Can't say for sure but I don't think he ever missed a putt inside of 8'. He carried an 11 handicap.... at 85yrs old! My chances of matching him? Nil.
Play with my grandson's now... and if my 2nd shot is within 10yds of their drive I'm elated... or no, pissed, but that's life as a decrepit old man golfer. - JamesJM
