They are ALL gone? Myrtle Beach, South Carolina for me. My Dad was born in Loris, SC but raised in Myrtle Beach. I used to have my Grandmother, three Aunts , three Uncles and one Cousin. Later years, my Step Mom. My Cousin joined the USAF and never went back. My Step Mom passed just three months ago . She was my very last connection to Myrtle Beach. My Grandmother passed in 1981 and my Dad 2013. In between, ALL of my Aunts n Uncles have passed.
It didn't hit me till last night. And sorta hard. I was simply Google Earthing a small town in S.C. and saw Alt Hwy 17 on the map. That was an off the beaten path way to MB SC that me and my Dad took to see my Aunts n Uncles in the mid 80s. I remember a few trips there, in the early 70s (My very favorite times) USUALLY, we'd just take regular Hwy 17. I found myself tracing the route and towns that I recall, like Moncs Corner and the long bridge over the Santee River. It simply made me think of so many passed love ones. It gave me a weird feeling that NOBODY is there in Myrtle Beach anymore. Though Myrtle Beach is NOTHING like it used to be or anything that I respect anymore (It has become a bit trashy and WAY over priced) I still want to go back. Maybe take Alt 17 there and Reg Hwy 17 home? Then again, it might just be too depressing.
