I always kind of wondered if they could have backed up and embedded the bow into the iceberg, or on top of it to keep the bow from sinking.. maybe butt it against the iceberg and keep hitting the gas (coal) to keep the bow against the iceberg to keep the bow from sinking..
I also wonder if they had not hit the brakes if the Titanic would have turned sharper and missed the iceberg.. when jet skiing you HAVE to hit the gas to turn.. letting off the gas and turning does nothing.. I know a prop boat is different that a jet nozzle ski, but still, under forward power, in water, the boat should have turned faster.. or not..
