Very few players will choke up to simply make contact in key moments. Nothing makes me cringe more than a guy paid $$$$$$, Golf swinging for the fence in a 2 to 1 game where hits have been hard to come by and a runner is at 2nd or 3rd with no outs.
And what happened to hitting behind the runner???? As a Cubs fan, it's why I put Andre Dawson MIIIILES ahead of SamME Sosa. Countless times, I saw Dawson shorten his swing to advance a guy to third or home, in hard pitching duel games. SamME hit a lot of cork bat HRs that ESPN and everyone drooled over...But he also whiffed in toooooooo many key at bats.
