but first... they took the dog for re-homing... so that's good.
They questioned me like I was a serial killer.
They wanted to know "why" I had fed it because if you feed a stray dog they consider it YOUR dog at that point. So I asked them:
"You mean the next time this happens you just want me to starve the dog?"
They had no answer for that. Also:
The dog was here quite a while as we put up posters, posted her on social media, hoping to find her owners. And again: "If you had the dog that long it's your dog".
So I asked, "So then we should not feed the dog OR try to find the owner?".
They had no answer for that either.
Now that all sounds critical, because it is. But they have an impossible job with the number of people abandoning pets. There are no easy answers.
After some more questions I found out the best procedure for you having a stray dog at your house is: Notify them before you do anything else.... don't feed them, don't try to find the owners.... AFTER you have notified them and they have a case number THEN you can feed them and search for the owner. So I learned something today. - JamesJM.
