Exactly what the guy at the Nursery told me. He said wait till right after they bloom. They are juuuuust starting to bloom now so I'll be clipping away in a couple of weeks. I went ahead and did the fertilizer part yesterday and watered. We are supposed to get 5-6 days of good rain starting tomorrow night.
