It is not at all uncommon... and just possibly most common.... for parents who have a child that is pretty good athletically, among their peers anyway, to began prep for the Pros. Yes... they are convinced their kid is going to go pro. And so... hired coaches, (one on one), camps, travel leagues, etc.
I don't think any of that is 'bad' necessarily. It's when it becomes their entire focus. And I've seen it many, many times.
But as for the child him or herself.... it's almost NEVER their sole focus. Games end and they want to play with their friends... video games, horsing around, whatever.
