I can tell you that in CGI,water scenes were traditionally the most difficult scenes to get right.. water movement is VERY difficult to make look realistic, but there have been major improvements in the process and techniques.. the newest movie Avatar: The Way Of Water was stunning in 8ts mastery if water scenes.. to me, it was like they cracked the code and were bragging about it the entire movie.. I haven't seen the movie you reference and don't know when it came out, but will try to catch the scene you mention..
