Queen's Gambit

My grandson is a masterful chess player and was staying with us for all of last week before returning to UCONN. He had never seen the series so we binged our way through the 7 episodes. He was fascinated with the accuracy of the chess moves as depicted as well as the names given to all the moves. He told us the movie was totally accurate in the way high level chess competition plays out.

This was the second time through for me and I believe it is truly right up there with Lonsome Dove as one of the finest series ever on TV. For those who have not seen it-it is about a coming of age American orphoned girl and chess prodigy who struggles with addiction and finds herself competing in a men's only atmosphere where few if any women have ever succeeded. It takes place during the cold war and her battles with her addiction and the Russions are remarkedly portrayed.
