Goff got us to a SuperBowl, and then got exposed in that SuperBowl as not being able to process quick enough to handle cover 0
He never lost his accurate arm, he never lose his ability to QB he could not perform against a particular defense that everyone started to use against us. Our line was not bad, but yes we could have improved there and that would have helped Goff, we could have played more 12 personnel and we did, helping Goff, and yes when Goff went to the SB we had a solid running game which is necessary.
Goff is great when everything else is great, but McVay realized you cannot ensure everything will be great, so you need a QB who can improvise, handle pressure and process quick enough to handle different things.
Is Goff trash? no, never thought that. Would we have won a SuperBowl without that trade? I don't think so. So totally worth it.
Also, the trade has nothing to do with us not making the playoffs, and the Lions are not in yet and most likely won't go too far if they do.
