Baker has flaws I am sure
However, I did watch his college career and he was exceptional
Just wanted to see for myself what his positive plays were last season with Cleveland. Remarkably, he has a lot of them.
Among his assets that fit for Sean is he likes to push the ball downfield.
He certainly is looking to the deeper part of the field.
Good news is that he isn't suffering battered QB syndrome.
Also, he can and does release quickly. Add to that, he has some firepower in that arm. Look around the 5 minute mark in this tape and he heaves it for a hail mary. Dang if doesn't CONNECT!!! That pineapple was tossed a long, long ways.
Beyond that he can make those sideline throws. Those are the difference makers for me. The ball is out there a long time, and it can't sail, and it can't be underpowered, and it has to be on target, and often has to be thrown before the WR makes their break.
To his credit, he does see that second level stuff quite well. His first pass for us went to Van Jefferson, and reflective of that notion. Hitting Skow repeatedly in those areas puts the exclamation mark on that.
For the Browns, he finds Landry. Odell, Njoku, Hooper freed up in those 2nd level areas, as well.
I'm sure that Coach McVay, GM Snead had looked over the Browns tape when they acquired OBJ.
Match that to what they knew we had in the cupboard here? It's an easy decision to let the former Oklahoma star fly west and jump in with us.
I KNOW
I KNOW
The list of mistakes made with the ball by Mayfield are extensive, but this is just an opportunity to see the cat in a different light.
Maybe he has wild success with us the rest of the way. If he does, this highlight tape reveals some the reason why.
I may just go and watch his last season or so for the Sooners next.....ha
