Coryell was never shy about finding talent that was out of the norm for most coaches/GMs.
Kellen Winslow, Chuck Muncie, Lionel James…all of them either “too big” for their position or “too small”.
But what Coryell saw is that they were talented freaks and they produced well beyond most “typical sized” players did at their respective positions.
Coryell deserves more accolades.
He made Fouts into the guy that would pass for 300 yards week in and week out. A lot of us here will remember that a 300 yards passing back then was a rarity.
Now a team is a guaranteed loser if they can’t put up 300 yards in passing.
