There is a tremendous difference between being an all out bust and ready for a gold jacket. He is most likely, like most players, somewhere in between. But, as I've consistently pointed it he doesn't have a couple of rare attributes which could make him a special player and worthy of a second round pick. His speed is exceptional. He gets wide open in a couple of steps and is all by himself in those go routes. He was open by 10 yards in one last week and the Wolf didn't hit him.
His other special quality is he has great hands.
He made a magnificent one handed catch on a leap in last week's game. He snags the ball with soft hands. John Hadl just passes away. Many of you may not have had the pleasure of watching him throw the ball to Harold Jackson.
He could really bomb it away and Jackson was the fastest guy in the league not named Ron Brown. If you can block for a few seconds and your QB can throw deep accurately then you can score in one play from anywhere on the field. Now, we do have a couple of problems with that. Our OL is all smashed up and we have street FAs trying and failing to keep our QBs healthy. Our starter, Stafford, got squished. Our backup, Wolf, got smushed. Perk is a terrific runner but can't make the long throw. It's why we just signed Mayfield. He has the arm. He can hit TTA deep. You will see. It will happen. Without the OL and the arm TTA's unique skills are wasted. What you'll get instead is an under sized outside blocker.
This is his biggest weakness. Size. He can not turn into Creed. He is not a 300+ pound center.
And I was screaming for Creed with the rest of you. Screaming!! I had to look up Atwell. That moment has passed. We can't go back. The pick was made. But, that doesn't mean the guy we did pick sucks. He is a very talented football player. He led the ACC is receiving. Let's get a decent OL together so plays can develop. Let's see what Mayfield can do with a true deep threat. Let's see what Stafford can do when healthy. And finally, give this little guy a little love. He is playing his heart out for a very bad football team. He didn't get the chance with our loaded offense last year. He was behind Kupp, Woods, OBJ and Van. And then, he got hurt. Call it a red shirt. This year he was behind Kupp, ARob and Van. Van got hurt and SKOW got the call. Kupp got hurt and Powell came in.
Now ARob is hurt and TTA is getting some time and he is showing the talent. Enjoy him.
