I assumed that it was because McVay felt that Hopkins was inadequate in such a role.
Yet Hopkins played very well vs Broncos both blocking and receiving.
Why has McVay made so many puzzling personnel decisions for the last 2 years?
Hopkins had done nothing in preseason or regular season until the Super Bowl. Then he gets himself suspended to start the season. Doesn't sound like a dependable player to me.
Nothing puzzling about it.
