More offensive line help is on the way for the Los Angeles Rams. The team announced on Wednesday that guard Coleman Shelton has been designated to return from injured reserve.
Shelton suffered a high ankle sprain in Week 4 against the 49ers and has been sidelined since. His original timeline for return was 4-6 weeks, so he’s right on track.
Sean McVay said on Monday night that “there’s a chance” Shelton could return this week against the Cardinals and while he still has not been activated, it’s a good sign he’s returned to practice ahead of Sunday’s game.
The Rams now have 21 days to activate Shelton from injured reserve and add him to the 53-man roster. If he isn’t activated in that window, he’ll remain on IR for the rest of the year.

Shelton began the season as the Rams’ starting right guard before moving to center to help replace Brian Allen, who also got injured early in the year.
With Allen back now, Shelton should slide in seamlessly at right guard. That could push Chandler Brewer or Oday Aboushi to left guard if the Rams bench Bobby Evans.
