One or a few plays do not define a player's value
Bobby Wagner is #1 on the team in tackles with 51 combined tackles.
He also has zero missed tackles.
Football players aren't perfect.. they will miss some reads here and there.
But you don't get to be #1 on the team in tackles if you are consistently missing reads.
If there is a concern on Wagner, it would be his adjustment to this defense on pass coverage.
With the seahawks, Wagner would give up around 4-6 yards after catch with and average depth of pass of around 4 yards.
But with the Rams this year he's giving up around 8 yards on YAC with a depth of coverage around 1.5 yards.
Soak that in a bit. The depth of coverage number is insane at only 1.5 yards.
This goes back to my other post that offenses are adjusting to the defensive scheme and eliminating the pass rush by just getting the ball out much hotter.
So tackling is key on pass coverage. The ball is coming out quickly at low average yards per flight so the defender must be close in position to make the tackle quickly.
Run defense/tackling isn't the issue. So to harp on Wagner for that is barking up the wrong tree.
