Thank you for posting this. I got a chance to listen to Jourdan Rodrigue's podcast where she referenced this guy and so it was nice to read the tweets for myself.

While I can def understand why the Rams would want to play this type of defense (after all, when all is said and done, it's been pretty successful for the most part), there are still a couple of things that bother me about it:

1) It seems as though the defensive scheme asks its DB's to keep plays in front of them and come downhill post-snap (even if it means giving up the short pass).

OK...fine.

But I would think that, in order for this to really work the way it's envisioned, your DB's have to (at the very least) be able to tackle with proficiency. And I've simply not seen that - especially out of our safeties. I mean...it's one thing to give up a 4-yard pass - it's another to miss a tackle (or two) and give up another 5 (or a housecall).

2) Considering the poor safety play, I'm wondering if it's time to revisit their personnel model?

They clearly don't value safeties that highly. But they're literally getting what they pay for when they: A) continue to assume they can get solid, consistent play out of late-round draft picks; and, B ) won't pay the players (e.g. John Johnson III) who actually CAN play. I mean...I would've thought that they learned something from the short stint that Eric Weddle gave them at the end of last season.
