Alot that I agree with Cody on.
Sort of iffy on his coverage issue. It's more around how offenses have adapted to the Rams and why Russell Wilson always does poorly against the Rams.
Rams are #1 in the league in depth of coverage for defense at 5.5 yards.
That is an outlier in any season.
League average is usually around 8 with a tight distribution around that number. Don't see teams go +/- 1 yard from the middle.
Rams defensive YAC is a little bit better than league average. This is much different from last year where Rams gave up one of the most highest YACs amongst teams.
Rams have the worst QB pressure/hurry rates
So what's going on?
Offenses are just taking the underneath routes. Willing to throw the ball 5-6 yards and get YACs
They are saying: let's negate the pass rush by getting the ball out quickly since the Rams are playing off the ball and giving the underneath.
Let's also not attack over the top much as Rams are good at taking that away.
Teams are more disciplined in this approach this year.
Whereas, someone like Russell Wilson, who refuses to throw the ball underneath, will try to attack the Rams at their strengths and end up getting sacked or throwing an incomplete ball in double coverage beyond 15 yards. Sort of like what Kyler Murray is doing this year.
Defense is actually doing well... arguably better than last year with the 5.5 depth of target and middle of the road YAC.
Could argue to bring the corners up more.. maybe 2 yards more. I wouldn't go to press though. With press, you can lose sight of the routes and the QB which then negates the effectiveness of zone positioning. But at 4-5 yards depth, you should still be okay.
