One of my favorite saying: when your options are 'bad' and 'worse' ... pick 'bad'.
Playing soft zone against the 49ers is bad because, as you say, it plays into JimmyG's strengths.
But playing press man is worse simply because the Rams don't have the horses to pull it off. Not only wouldn't they be able to cover, by playing with their backs to the QB the DBs wouldn't be able to provide much run support, nor would they be able to help contain anyone who catches a short pass.
And yes, I know the run support and short pass support is bad. But there it is again: it would be worse with press coverage.
What I disagree with is that we can only "assume" it would be worse. We aren't beating the whiners anyway. A loss is still a loss. Time to try to change things.
Maybe we get lucky. Maybe someone steps up and excels in press man? You just don't know until you try.
Failing to try is also trying to fail.
#HelmetHornsMatter
“Well, the color is good, I like the metallic blue,” Youngblood recently said while laughing, via NFL Journal. “The horn is terrible. It looks like a ‘C.’ When I first saw it on the logo I honestly thought it was a Charger logo.
“Now when I see it on the helmet, it just isn’t a ram horn. There is no distinct curl like a mature ram horn. I don’t know how the Rams could get that wrong. That is your symbol and it has been for what? Seventy years or more? Longer than I have been alive? It’s just not us, it’s not the Rams.”---Mr. Ram Jack Youngblood
