Rams have a very good history under McVay of not getting rid of guys prematurely. From the beginning this one felt wrong, too, out of character for them, because as poor as Akers has looked the blocking on his runs has been terrible. Said this multiple times and drew parallels with Bettis, because the two situations had similarities. Obviously Akers is no Bettis. But he is also a RB who looks ineffective and it might be due to the OL.
If he called out McVay in a meeting as rumored then a lot of this starts making sense. But the Rams don't have to trade him. They could just bench him and let him simmer in his juices. Adding Hunt, if that happens, is not mutually exclusive with Akers.
So again what matters here is what does Akers have left. And if you're not sure then bench him and keep him on the roster because it's not a good policy to trade players at a low point. Much better would be having him if something happens to Hunt. Injuries happen at this position.
