And McVay is the one that must oversee all of it.
McVay must somehow be imaginative and aggressive on O while still play calling within the limits of a slowly healing OL that is facing a very good front 7. That’s no easy task but he must do it, nonetheless. Please, no empty backfields or slow developing pass plays until further notice or when OL once again has Shelton back. Don’t ask that OL to do something that it’s currently incapable of doing.
There is tremendous talent at our skill positions on O and yet our O has been the weakest link by far. So FIX it, dammit! 49ers are not supermen, heck they’ve lost 4 of 7 games already! Use trickeration, surprise players, 2 minute O, screens, draws, or any other danged thing that you think might confuse the 49ers, Sean!
Morris’ D is having a good season statistically, but I’m not at all sure that his ‘soft zone’ (or whatever you want to call it) is the best strategy vs Jimmy G and Shanahan’s game plans. Didn’t watch the Chiefs thrashing of the 49ers but I’m guessing Chiefs didn’t rely on soft zone?
ST are coming around and simply need to avoid gaffs such as blocked punts, etc.
So, I guess I’m saying that a win vs 49ers comes down to whether our vaunted O can do it’s darned job. We will live or die by the results of our O play.
