I looked up Ronnie Rivers; here's what I found:
Fresno State Bulldog, son of former Minnesota (/) and Falcon (/) RB Ron Rivers. Highest possible character marks from coaches, studies hard and works extra-hard, model for teammates. Shifty runner with good moves who
SEES THE FIELD AND CUTBACK LANES and can catch passes out of the backfield, also a returner.
His highlight reels show just a wee bit of his moves and running capabilities and style, forcing me to generalize on what I saw. For the most part the highlights are what you'd expect: breakaway runs through good holes.
Rivers makes yards after contact in the open field, can put moves including a nifty spin after contact on defenders who don't quite secure the tackle, requires a legitimate tackle to bring him down but falls forward. Good ball security from what I could see - holds high and tight. Good-enough game speed but not a breakaway runner.
Height, 5'9" weight 195.
The highlight reel showed one play where he ran inside for short or no yardage and didn't push anybody back.
My overall impression on too little evidence is that Rivers is another Swiss Army Knife type - versatile, motivated, football-smart player who could be used in a number of way - in other words, another typical McVay running back, but without the flash shown by Williams. Who knows - he could pan out and surprise us.
Yo! 21Dog- what can you tell us?
