He's got to be better than AR or Skow? How would we know?
I agree - he looked great in camp with those werll-timed high-point catches, competitiveness for the ball; but zero experience as compared to AR? Knowledge of the offense, route running ability? Able to get open vs. NFL starter corners? Better blocker than Skow? Better than has to have some objective measurement.
Nobody wants to see him succeed more than I do - Montana product and great kid, intelligent, humble, hardworking - and I'm glad he got to suit up, got into a for-real NFL game. That's real progress. McVay's philosophy is to wait until the young player is ready - and not throw them in before that. Sometimes it seems too conservative but I leave that judgement with the coaches.
I'm hip-hoppingly eager to see McC come in and prove himself - surprise everybody, and ean a starting role on this team and prove himself mor valuable than even his coaches might have anticipated. Some players do that and he might be one of them.
I want to see that as soon as he's ready.
