The caps on Tutu:
McVay> Does he really believe and does he have the courage to dial-up plays for Tutu?
Opportunity> Stafford or QB? Will they target Tutu?
Health> Is he available?
Desire> Does he want it?
McVay and most coaches talk the talk but they have to prove it with their decision making.
McVay will cite the opposition and the front or scheme fits and all that matters but truth is the star players are trusted to make plays even against odds.
McCutcheon stands out as a potential star because despite being covered he made plays and the QB trusted him to make the play. But before that the Coach put the player on the field.
McVay is essentially risk adverse. I think of receivers we have had and how gradually McVay progresses them.
His trust issues or his aversion to change is pretty evident.
He even keeps players or hypes them above their ability because he loves traits and characteristics hense his manta "be our best when it is called up on" That is not an exact quote but the point is while that sounds good it does not mean perfect simply means make a great play when needed most. McVay finds that to be a defining line. I am guessing Aaron Rogers feels the same way and the more a player bails him out or makes a great play he rewards him but if he faulters or struggles early he becomes an afterthought.
McVay's strength is his commitment to his philosphy of making everything look the same and trying to manipulate defenses with his star players who are in lock step. The problem with that is its hard to break into his line-up because he does not just value the talent as he values traits. McVay has tendencies and he does not quickly adjust or change and our opponents that have been successful rely on that as well. He needs to uncork some of the players on the team that were brought on to be stars and let them grow on the field and not in the press.
We are not an offensive juggernaught. We do not fly by the seat of our pants and ask players to just do what they do ala KC. We look at what we do good and we look for replication and that is where Tutu will find and awkward fit if he does not catch lightning in the bottle. McVay would rather have Skrownek looking like and imitating Cooper Kupp in body type and route running and convince himself the scheme needs more Cooper Kupps but we learned with OB that the scheme needs players that add demension depth and skills that do not necessarily have to be Kupp clones etc. Alan Robinson does not have to be Robert Woods or OB but McVay is the ring master and he needs to let his skill guys cook. He needs to losen the reigns a bit.
Back to your point I am hoping those are the numbers for him this week but if over the next 2 weeks it would mean that McVay has seen the light.
