That were it not for Reeves moving the Rams from Cleveland in 1946 there would be little if any west coast professional sports. He led the way in demonstrating that with improved air travel professional sports teams (baseball, basketball, football) could financially survive if they had a marketable image on the new developments in television. The Rams became the first pro team-in any sport-that was made for TV. They made it exciting to watch on tv with their long distance passing attack that attracted the Hollywood celebrities and before you knew it the NFL was becoming the sports entertainment people began to enjoy not only in person but on television across the country..
Bob Waterfield, the HOF QB for the Rams, was married to Jane Russell, a beautiful movie star and many of the Rams became involved in the film industry. Bing Crosby became a significant part owner of the Rams as did others recognized across the nation. The Rams became a symbiotic partnership with Hollywood, pro sports, and television. In the end Dan Reeves vision turned out to be more than accurate.
The NFL owes a lot to the Los Angeles Rams.
