i think it's because the odds are very slim that a team can win a sb with a backup qb. meaning, if you have to play a backup qb in the sb, history has shown that's it's uncommon that they win.
better off with backup qb's who can bridge for 2,3 or 4 regular season games till the starter gets back. maybe 1 at most 2 playoff games.
i don't believe the bengals 3rd string qb could win a sb or their 2nd string.
