Those teams might have better #2s but they don't have a Stafford who is a superstar and highly paid. The Niners have Trey Lance and are trying to trade Crapola. Who are these other guys? What are they paid? Could they run our scheme? Could we have afforded them when they were available? Are they really breed than the Wolf? If you're thinking yes, based on what? McSnead constantly searches to upgrade this roster. It's why they traded Goff and a slew of high picks to get Stafford. Everyone is pro football knows that the QB position is by far the most important. If they saw any chance to get better why wouldn't they? And why is everyone so down on Wolford? Because he didn't light up the scoreboard playing behind an amateur OL against the Texans' starting defense in a fake game? And even then, he went 14-22 and threw no interceptions. He didn't have Cooper Kupp and ARob. He didn't have VJ or Tutu. He didn't have Higbee or Akers or Hendu. Would this performance have anything at all to do with what would happen against the Bills if Stafford had to be taken out? No, none whatsoever. Hey maybe he would totally blow his big opportunity and he could of course totally fall apart, but he seems to be calm and confident to me. He was running for his life against the Texans and kept his eyes down the field and completed passes anyway. McVay likes him. McVay watches him every day in practice and trusts him. Is he the best back up in the league? Probably not. There are former starters behind present ones here and there.
