If Lott does not deflect away that pass to Flipper and a 10 to 0 Rams lead, Rams WIN that game! As painful as it may be, rewatch that game till that point. Rams were playing GREAT! That Niners team was a freaking MACHINE (Look at the Super Bowl vs Denver) and the Rams were going toe to toe and actually playing better. Even had already gotten a turn over. That deflection by Lott started a Niner revival and chopped the legs off the Rams. The Rams were DRAINED after winning FOUR Playoff games in a row...THREE on the extreme East Coast. After the deflection?? Absolutely nothing went right for the Rams. The Niners won 30 to 3 but IMO never did anything THAT spectacular. That was more about a physically / emotionally drained Rams team.
That was a helluva ride. Had we beat SF, the Super Bowl vs Denver would have been VERY interesting. But who's to say that THAT is when a Rams collapse might have happened after the first set back. 33 years later, I do not think another team has ever won THREE straight on the opposite Coast. Especially games that were Playoffs. Keep in mind, that New England game on Christmas was reg season but must win to get in......as was the Jets game in Anaheim the week before. I called that Playoff game #1.
VERY VERY proud of that 1989 team!
