It really seems to me that the McVay offense is predicated on the threat of the run. If you look back at when the offense worked best, it was when the run game was emphasized. Even though pass plays are statistically more efficient, the Rams at least seem to have a statistically significant correlation between running the ball and winning - even when the running game is not great.
