I think it's unlikely by opening day unless Lake somehow sets the world on fire in camp and preseason. With Fuller coming back from a major injury they want to keep some veteran depth there early on.
Now, I DO think Rapp is a strong potential trade deadline candidate. It allows them at least the first 6-7 weeks to get Lake acclimated and capable to handle a 3rd safety role at that point. And Rapp just fits the mold of guys (like Kenny Young) they tend to trade in October. Trade him during their bye week and they'd save roughly $1.5M. Doubt they would get much in return (a 2024 7th?) but he could also be part of a deal to add edge rushing help or something.
So, we agree that Rapp is now expendable but merely differ on the likely timing? I’m good with that.
