With some of the talent in the NFL, eliminating the fair catch while forcing teams to give 5 yards to the returner would likely increase the overall excitement of the game. More opportunities for scoring, big returns or turnovers is always interesting. Keeping the tension relatively high and increasing the chance for a comeback by eliminating kneel downs would also be a good thing.
