how did his last name get to be McCutcheon when his mom's last name is Brooks and his dad's last name is Figgins? i'm feeling very out of touch with modern society after reading that.

Katie had two boys Lance and Latrell, and the boys have their father's last name (there's a 2018 article in the Bozeman Daily Chronicle that states this fact), McCutcheon. The boys were toddlers when she left their dad and moved to Montana. I don't think they were ever married. Lance's dad was not a part of his life growing up. Sounds like Mike Figgins is a parental figure in the home, whether or not he and Katie are married. They could be married and Katie just didn't take his last name. (I didn't take RAMbeau's either and we've been married 20 years). In any event, Katie and Mike are parents to Lance.... and the last names really don't matter.
