I see Hill as insurance and a bridge more than anything

May 04, 2022 03:21AM
If he can come back and be the 2020 Troy Hill with the Rams, awesome... Maybe he will, maybe he won't. Both Hill and Williams had down years in 2021- PFF, for example, rated Williams 64th out of 118 CBs, Hill 74th.

But regardless, I do think Hill can be at least what Williams was in 2021. And he, more importantly, offers some insurance should Rochell not progress in year 2 as they expect he will. Or if Long remains inconsistent- though I think Long overall was as good as Williams last year. And it buys time for the two rookie CBs to develop slowly. If one emerges quicker than anticipated next year, great. But neither Durant or Kendrick will start off any higher than their CB5.

Hill will also be playing for what very well could be his final NFL contract in 2023. Never underestimate that factor.
