Sean McVay and Les Snead couldn’t resist the urge to draft a running back. The Rams traded up from No. 175 overall to 164, and then proceeded to select Notre Dame running back Kyren Williams.

In order to move up 11 spots, the Rams gave up No. 238 overall in the seventh round. They now have four picks remaining in the draft.

Williams, who is 5-foot-9, rushed for 1,000-plus yards in each of the last two seasons. He also caught 78 passes for 675 yards in his career, and is heralded as one of the best pass protectors in this class.

He had a nose for the end zone at Notre Dame, too, scoring 31 total touchdowns: 27 on the ground and four as a receiver.

Williams will have to compete for playing time as the No. 3 back because Cam Akers and Darrell Henderson Jr. are most likely locked in as the top two running backs in Los Angeles.
