First it was QBs. Then it was CBs, Now it's WRs. These contracts being awarded are going to create some huge issues for teams going forward, including the teams that started the frenzy.
GB was very foolish to go to the moon on money for Rogers. He is a never satisfied sulker who doesn't know what he wants to do with his life. His skills are clearly diminishing (at least they are to me), and paying him that much will make keeping other players around more difficult.
Miami was just plain nuts for giving Tyreek Hill that kind of money. $30 mil for a gimmick WR? Whose main big plays he made with KC came NOT on routes, but on scrambles by a really good QB who excels on finding WRs in scramble drills.
Might the Bills have been foolish to spend the huge long term money they did on Miller? Not if they win the Superbowl. But anything short of that makes it a bad deal.
Deebo Samuels sees this and says: "Heck, I should be the highest paid Receiver". Now what? It'll be interesting what the Niners do. It's not at all clear to me that they would meet or exceed the Hill deal.... but some idiotic team might. And screw themselves over in the process.
i could go on, but these enormous contracts are going to come home to roost. Of course, if the salary cap goes up continuously at say, 8-10 % every year, it'll work out. If not, then yikes.
