Only rarely is a team so far and above other teams that they cruise into the Superbowl with near perfection.
Teams need breaks along the way to get there. Injuries. Catching some other teams in a weakened condition. Ref's calls on bang-bang plays. Opponents dropping sure INTs, while your guys make a few improbable plays. A FG that is made or missed by a couple of feet.
How quick we forget that we lost our WR 1a prior to halftime in the Superbowl. We were playing our TE 3 because Higbee was out and TE2 was injured. The TD by the Bengals coming out of halftime isn't even disputed as having been a blatantly obvious face mask and pull down on Ramsey by Tee Martin. Otherwise Ramsey was in perfect position to defend it. So in some ways, the Rams could have made that game a near blow out if those things hadn't happened to them.
So many things went wrong for the Rams, but they managed to overcome them.
Sure, Stafford could limit some of those bad throws. But, few can even make some of his great throws.
But the likelihood that if the Rams don't make to the Superbowl next year it's on Stafford is.....remote.
I think the two iffy issues at the moment are the Oline and the defense in general, especially the secondary. The Rams must be able to run the ball better. And our secondary needs to defend at least as well as it did last year, but with some different players.
