For this team Clowney is like Floyd on the other side, he would make the Rams a very tough team to run on and I think his pass rush numbers will increase because of the team around him. In the past he has never been on a team like the Rams, he has never had this kind of help both from a player and teammate way and from an overall organizational and coaching, and scheme standpoint.
The Rams are a different animal and I love the fact that it is starting to be recognized and is going to pay off in players who want rings coming to LA to play with the Rams.
together, means more of a 4-2-5 defense. And with that you need more solid DEs. A real DE like Clowney would be a big help over two OLBer types.
Clowney's a good power rusher but he's better than 90% of the NFL defensive ends versus the run. He makes a lot of plays in the backfield. Like miller did from a OLBer stance.
It's not that an OLBer as one of the edges is bad, we've see it can work, but with more of a power guy like Clowney it almost fits better with the 2 ILBer 4-2-5 where you get some better run-stopping without losing too much pass rusher.
Clowney is not in Miller's class as a "moves" rusher . . . he's just not that kind of guy, he runs speed then converts speed to power. And it's decent effective but he's a good player when healthy and motivated
He's a decent consolation prize, IMO.
