Backing Aaron up

April 12, 2022 11:05AM
I have always thought that Aaron is a penetrator with the inevitable limitation of narrow impact. An army that opens a narrow salient in the enemy must broaden the opening to firmly establish it. If not, the penetrating corridor is vulnerable.

Aaron is historically great at penetrating. But he is one player. And not the sort that clogs up a couple of gaps at once.

That has led to our chronic vulnerability to runs that bypass his brilliance. Our ILBs have not been able to shut the door behind him. He wins a lot of duels which lead to little because the LBs could not back him up.

A great ILB changes everything. I am immensely stoked to imagine Bobby W roaming behind Aaron, laterally shoring up the LOS. Gonna be really impactful.

I actually think B W may have a greater impact than a flashy edge would. This signing, IMO, raises our defensive profile significantly. Give us a solid CB and I will feel confident Raheem's unit will significantly outperform last year's bunch.
