I'd still prefer a rookie punter as well. I think they would too (salary, etc.).
Dixon does, at least, give them insurance and keep them from pressing in drafting one. He can hold, which is a plus, and playing in the Meadowlands vs. SoFi is a factor. But really, any FA punter they signed would be a downgrade from Hekker.
I'm all for the competition. But whether its the SDSU kid, Penn State kid or someone else I'll be rooting for the rookie....
