Because when I read he had the most tackles in his career last season and I understand played 1 more gm ...but 170 tackles and quick math says that's averaging 10 tackles a gm
That's a tackling machine .

Anyway wondering what you are seeing with your eyes as opposed to what he's putting up on a stat sheet?

What are tackles.

Back in the days, Rams had dominant defense.
1st down, run Jack Reynolds, makes a tackle for a 3-yard gain
2nd down--pass, deflected, incl, pass defense, Monte Jacskons,
3rd down, sack, Jack Youngblood,

rinse, repeat----if you have a lot of 3 and outs ,4 and outs, you get very few tackles. End of game
Rams allow 80 yards rushing, 150 passing and 10 points.
Jack Reynolds = 4 tackles 1 assists
Did he have a good game? Bad game?

now.
Seahawks defense sucks
run--Wagner tackle, +5
Pass, Wagner, +6 1st down
pass, incomplete
run +4 Wagner tackle
etc......

end of game, Seattle gives up 125 yards rushing on 25 carries, 5 yards a carry, 1 TD
complete 20/28 passes for 250 yards 3 TDs
gave up 375 yards, 31 points,
Wagner got 10 tackles, maybe 5 assists . . . . 15 tackles,

does that mean he had a good game? Or a bad game?
only way to know is watch the film.

Got this from Twitter----Wagner's grades go down
maybe PFF is right maybe they are wrong, All I know is grades down
in 2021.

Main thing is tackles don't matter that much . . .

There are a couple of years in Wagner's prime where he got fewer tackles
than Laurinaitis, and in no universe was James better than Wagner back then
showing that tackles not not much of a measure

All I can say is Wagner is much better than Reeder and Rams play with 2
inside linebackers maybe 35-40% of the time, so Rams will have
to adjust defense to play more schemes with 2 ILBers

As far as film, I watched maybe 3 full games of defense recently and Wagner
didn't look that great in coverage in the middle to the hook zones...

He look pretty good going into the line--looks strong, but he used to be a flash
going sideline to sideline, blitzing, one of the best, and could cover well.
A true HOFer.... now? He's just better than what we have, an upgrade to Reeder
and MAYBE an upgrade to Jones, but not sure on that one.
