Don't just listen to Snead, watch what he does.
He has no interest in putting out big buck contracts to aging vets or if it is questionable that this person can actually improve a position.
But when an opportunity arises to pick up a serious difference maker at a position the Rams think can push them forward even further... the Rams will move heaven and earth to try to make it happen.
Clowney is a case in point. He is what he is. Forget "underachiever". I've never cared for Clowney. Even his final year in college was a zero. Teams keep picking him up, paying him nicely, believing he'll become an entirely different player with them. Result? Very little bang for the buck. So he's always back on the market, it seems. He's a "B" OLB/DE when healthy. Pretty good run player; so-so pass rusher. But he's a 2 year $9 mil kind of guy. Not a 3 year $40 mil kind of guy.
Plus, it's not like the Rams' CB or OLB cupboard is bare.
And as Snead points out: This is only March! There are many months ahead when teams cut players, make players available for trade, the draft, and more. FA is still ongoing.
The Rams are patient and let these things come to them. They don't go out and chase; you can do that when you aren't desperate for any position. And to pay some substantial money to improve some position incrementally isn't Snead's MO.
Patience grasshopper. The Rams are going to again be a serious Superbowl contender.
