I agree. I'd rather get a younger up and comer. Reed is one good example- 13 sacks and 25 QB hits over the past two years. There are likely many similar type edge players they could go after. Some probably disagree but one move I would consider is bringing back Morgan Fox. He would obviously not cost much and was a nice rotational piece for them in 2019-2020.
Miller was not going to be a 15+ sacks guy in LA this year and he won't be in Buffalo. He was bought in to make plays down the stretch for them like he did this postseason and help Buffalo seal the deal. In that regard it makes total sense for the 2022 Bills.
If the Rams can allocate money they may have been willing to pay Miller for an edge guy opposite Floyd that might give them 7-8 sacks while also improving what they have at CB then the defense could be better off overall.
The Rams cupboard is hardly bare on defense as we know. Beyond Donald and Floyd they have solid interior DL in Gaines and Robinson, an emerging ILB in Jones, a trio of safeties, oh yeah and Jaylen Ramsey too... They can zero in on edge and CB help going forward and have the resources to do just that.
Good post, 93.
Rams are gonna want an edge that can contain as well as rush the passer, two things at which Miller was so good.
However, Rams now have that saved ‘Miller money’ and I’m sure that they will bring in somebody that can thrive if only in a 1 year ‘prove it’ capacity. And there should be money left over now for quality help at another position or two, as well.
This could prove to be a net push for the Rams D when all is said and done. Seriously.
Never underestimate Snead’s resourcefulness or imagination OR our coaching staff’s abilities to maximize a new player’s usage. Not to mention Demoff/Pastoors’ ability to get them in under the cap.
The ‘22 season never revolved around just Von Miller. Let’s move on…
