I was listening to the
Locked on Rams guy the other day. He seems to be connected to the team and he said something I had not realized. Our WR group is facing a real challenge.
We all know that OBJ won't be available until well into the season. And of course he is an FA. I am not sure how that will work out. Can we pay him for half a season with no assurance of his level of recovery? I dunno.
But I never worried because Bobby Trees will be back. But here is what I learned:
Woods is likely NOT to be available until a month or two into the season! I did not realize this. Maybe others did, but this seems scary to me.
With no WR reinforcements, we would play the first 1/4 to 1/3 of the season with Kupp, a solid but not brilliant Jefferson, and ... uh, Skowronik? Tutu? That ain't good. Add OL questions and I dunno how productive our O could be.
Now, I do not believe this FO will stand pat at WR. They will add some vet quality, at least at grade B level.
But it raises all sorts of questions about what we will do with few picks, limited cap space, and most of an OL to sign.
This is not panic. And our FO is pretty good at this stuff. But it's good for us to see the challenges it faces. I had NOT realized that WR was such a problematic position.
