We'll see what he can become, if anything. I have a hard time seeing him carve out playing time, especially if OBJ is re-signed (even though he won't play until November). Skowronek has a better chance to carve out the WR4 role. And of course Powell is a far, far better option as a return man.
If (when?) Atwell disappoints in year two then they can let him go this time next year. $783k cap savings.

I might add that part of the frustration with Atwell is that everybody’s favorite, Creed Humphrey, was just sitting there and went on to having a stellar season.
Not Atwell’s fault, maybe, but the contrast in the 2 alternatives is striking.
