That said, some guys just go through a rash of injuries and then leave it behind. Roger Saffold comes to mind.
I think the bigger issue for the Rams is this: 1) do they think Noteboom is ready for the job (I think their answer is yes), 2) do they think A Jackson can be that guy? 3) Would they like to coax 1 more year out of Whit if the answer to #2 is yes.
Noteboom is going to get money on the FA market. He's got plenty of film to show that he's at worst a solid LT. That's probably worth 4 years $50 mil.
Whit has a huge cap number next year but about 1.6 mil dead money if he is cut.
Whit will not be back.
So.... it's down to Noteboom or A Jackson. I imagine if they could structure a contract with Noteboom that would be cap friendly year 1 and not too much dead money year 2 if released, with the idea the A Jackson has a pretty reasonable shot at taking over, that's what they might do.
Might they push all their chips to the center of the table on Jackson? Hard to imagine.
