Rams/Niners -- the play that turned out to be the beginning of the end

February 06, 2022 10:06AM
After the Rams scored a TD to make it 17-14, the Niners' quickly drove to midfield on the ensuing possession. On first down near midfield, Mitchell runs it up the gut for 9 yards to the Rams' 42 -- a run that had a "beginning of the end" feel to it, as though the Niners might go go on one of their long, pounding drives and take control of the game. And it WAS the beginning of the end -- but not for the Rams. Because that play, with 12 minutes left in the game, would be the LAST time the Niners would gain any positive yardage for the remainder of the game.
