I get why Morris would do that but what was even more frustrating for me was the slowness or inability to adjust to everyone "taking advantage" of that strategy and were attacking the middle and underneath areas.
It seemed at times we wouldn't adjust to it the whole game allowing teams to march up and down the field with double digit drives and chewing up the clock while our vaunted O was on the sidelines watching it!
That was my issue with Morris, as well. That he didn't alter that approach for teams that thrived on taking the short/underneath stuff. Giving them EXACTLY what they wanted, rather than force them to do things they would rather not do. In the last game against the 49ers, he finally decided to take away what they wanted to do, instead of giving that to them. And they won that game precisely because he did that.
