Rams are an above average team, not a dominant team. Very few teams every year can be considered dominant.

Rams defense is mainly good when the Offense is rolling. When the Offense can score points and creates leads, the Defense can shut down opponents as opponents go 1 dimensional. This is pretty much indicative of the blowout wins. This is why I don't pay much attention to overall stats as overall stats only partially tell you the story.

Against the better teams in the league, Rams Defense struggles.. not because so much that the other team's offense is far superior. It is more because the games are closer which allows for the other offense to have a wider playbook open.

There's probably 2 games in the year where I felt the Rams Defense carried the game despite poor performance by the Offense: Against Ravens and second time against Seahawks. Rams own the Seahawks because Russell Wilson refuses to dump the ball, which plays well into the D scheme and D players skill sets. So maybe that shouldn't count.

There's a reason why McVay has an almost undefeated record when leading at halftime, but then are 7-22 when trailing at halftime (0-15 when trailing by 9 or more points). Part of it is the offense... where the playbook gets limited and Rams get more 1- dimensional. The other part is the Defense where the opponent has a bigger playbook to work with.

Neither side of the ball is dominant to overcome these issues. Can argue that Wade had much better defensive players that could have been dominant. But hard to argue that Morris has great players to make this defense dominant. They can be good, which means they'll have their winning days, but not dominant to overcome many deficit scenarios.
